Hyrox is a global fitness race that combines running with functional workout stations – and The Meta Movement is one of the few gyms in the Haywards Heath area fully set up to help you train for it properly. Our private barn gym at Holmsted Farm in Cuckfield has the space, kit and coaching you need to prepare with confidence.
Our Hyrox sessions blend running, sled pushes and pulls, ski erg, rower, lunges, wall balls and more into structured, race‑style workouts. Every session is coach‑led, with options to scale the volume and intensity so both first‑time competitors and experienced athletes can train side by side.


Whether you’ve already signed up for an event or you’re just Hyrox‑curious, we’ll help you build the engine, strength and confidence you need to get to the finish line – and enjoy the process along the way.

What is Hyrox?

Hyrox is a fitness race format that combines endurance and strength in a simple, repeatable way.

Competitors complete:

  • 8 x 1 km runs

  • 8 functional workout stations in between each run

Typical stations include sled pushes and pulls, ski erg, rowing, burpee broad jumps, farmers carries, sandbag lunges and wall balls. Everyone completes the same course, and you can enter as an individual, in pairs or as a relay team.

Because the format is standardised, you can compare your times from race to race and see clear progress. It’s challenging, but it’s also highly accessible – you don’t need to be an elite athlete to take part, just willing to put in the work.

​​​How Hyrox training works at The Meta Movement

At The Meta Movement, our Hyrox training is designed to mirror the demands of race day while building you up safely over time.


A typical session might include:

  • Technique work on one or two key stations (e.g. sleds or wall balls)

  • Interval running or machine work to build your engine

  • Race‑style circuits that combine running and stations under time pressure

We use our astro track, sleds, ski erg, rower, functional rigs and strongman kit to create sessions that feel close to the real thing. You’ll learn pacing, transition efficiency and how to manage your effort so you don’t blow up halfway through.


Coaches will adjust the volume, loads and distances based on your current level and your event timeline, so you’re always challenged but not overwhelmed.

  • First‑time competitors who are signed up and want a structured plan rather than guessing.

  • Returning athletes who want to beat their previous time or move up a category.

  • Functional fitness fans who enjoy this style of training, whether or not they choose to race.

  • You don’t need to be “fit enough” before you start. We’ll meet you where you’re at, build your capacity gradually and help you decide which race category and timeline make sense for you.
